Yesterday I was watching ๐ ๐ฎ๐บ๐น๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ถ ๐ผ๐ป ๐ก๐ฒ๐๐ณ๐น๐ถ๐ โฆ and a very small scene made a very big impact on me.
A lawyer becomes a judge for the first time.
He walks into the courtroomโฆ new role, new authority, new responsibility.
Everything is formal. Structured. Observed.
A lawyer, who he already knows, walks in to present his case.
Naturally, out of habit and familiarityโฆ
The judge gives him a small smile.
Just a normal human reaction, right?
But immediately, one of the court staff steps in and corrects him.
He explain that as a judge, he cannot smile at any lawyer.
No matter how well he knows them.
No matter how comfortable he feels.
Because in that momentโฆ
That simple smile is not โjust a smileโ anymore.
It becomes a signal.
To everyone sitting in the courtroom, it can look like:

๐ The judge might favour him
๐ The decision could be biased
Later, even other judges point this out to him.
They explain why judges maintain a very neutral, almost expressionless face in court.

People start forming opinions.
That one scene clearly showed something very powerful.
