Â
I was always an introvert.
I was not someone who liked meeting new people or talking in a group. I was never a person who had many friends or enjoyed parties. I was shy, very private, and comfortable in my own space.
Making friends was not easy for me. Even starting a simple conversation with a new person felt difficult.
I was a swimmer and participated in many competitions. But even there, it was an individual sport. My performance depended only on me, my practice, and my strength. Somewhere, even in sports, I chose a path where I did not have to depend on a group.
This was me till my graduation.
Then I started working in the IT industry as a Graphic and Web Designer. Even there, my role was mostly individual. Either I worked alone or in a small team. My interaction was limited to very few people.
Life was comfortable. But limited.
Things started changing when I began my journey as a self employed professional.
That is when reality hit me.
I realised that business growth is not only about your skills. It depends a lot on how well you connect with people. Your network, your visibility, your relationships, and the references you get from others.
And honestly, this was not easy for me.
But I knew if I want to grow, I need to change.
I decided to work on myself. I decided to become visible.
Here are the 5 things that helped me in this journey:
The first and most important change was my mindset.
I understood that growth starts from within. If I keep telling myself that I am introvert and I cannot do this, I will never move ahead.
Mindset helped me accept who I am, and at the same time work on what I need to improve.
It helped me find solutions instead of excuses.
I worked on getting clarity.
Clarity about myself, my work, my services, and how I want to present myself to the world.
When you are clear, your actions become clear. Your decisions become easier. Your communication becomes stronger.
Clarity gave direction to my efforts.
This was a big shift for me.
I realised that if people do not see you, they will not remember you. And if they do not remember you, they will not refer you.
I started showing up.
On platforms where my clients are present. In conversations. In professional spaces.
I worked on how I present myself, because your presence should match your profession.
Consistency played a very important role here.
I understood that confidence is not inborn.
It is built.
I started working on skills like communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence.
These skills helped me connect better with people and express myself more confidently.
The more I improved, the more confident I became.
Your subject knowledge is your strength.
I made sure I keep learning. I keep upgrading.
New ideas, new tools, new ways of delivering better results to my clients.
When you know your work well, it automatically builds confidence.
Today, I am still learning.
But I am no longer the person who was afraid to connect.
If you are someone who feels you are introvert and business is not for you, I want to tell you this:
You do not need to change who you are.
You just need to work on how you show up.
Start small. Work on yourself. Be open to learning.
Your journey will teach you everything you need to know.
And trust me, your growth will begin the moment you decide to be visible.
