Same White Coat. Two Completely Different Doctors.
By Ruutujaa Kantak | Entrepreneur Branding & Credibility Coach
Today, after a long time, I met my cousin who is a doctor. During our conversation, she asked me about my work as an Image Consultant.
Because she is a doctor to explain, I shared with her a story from a session I had conducted for hospital staff and doctors so she could related to the session.
She listened carefully, then asked me something really worth thinking about:
“Two doctors. Same profession. Same patients. Same clinical environment. Wouldn’t their presence as doctors be exactly the same?”
And honestly, this is exactly where most people get it wrong.
Here’s what I told her.
- Yes, the profession is the same.
- The patients are the same.
- The professional demands are the same.
But the Person behind that Profession? Completely different.
One doctor may be soft spoken wand naturally warm. The other may carry a strong and commanding presence. One may come across as dismissive without even meaning to. Another may appear unsure of themselves even when they are not. Physically, in the way they carry themselves, in the way they walk into a room may completely different.
This is exactly why when I work with any client I do not only look at their profession, their audience, and where they want to reach professionally. I also look at the person. Their personality. Their physical presence. The way they think. The way they naturally conduct themselves.
When I work on Appearance it is not only about whether an outfit is formal or casual, or which colors technically suit them. It is about what that outfit and that color is communicating on their behalf. Does it reflect the authority and trust they want to build as a doctor? Does their overall presence say what they actually want to say before they have even spoken a single word?
Because a patient does not only experience your medical expertise. They experience YOU.
That is where your Unique Individual Brand lives. Not in your degree. Not in your designation. But in how your individuality shows up through your profession. Your personality, your physical presence, your grooming, your behavior, your communication style and your virtual presence all working together, authentically, without changing who you are.
Two doctors can wear the same white coat. But only one of them can be you.
Your profession gives you a title. Your Unique Individual Brand gives you an identity.
Which one are you truly building?
There is a difference between just “being a professional” and building a Unique Individual Brand.
So here is something to think about:
Are you just showing up as your professional … or are you intentionally shaping how people experience you?
